An angry hotel guest in Shanghai lost his cool on the morning of January 10 and drove his Audi A5 convertible through the front doors and into the lobby. The act followed an argument about a missing laptop, reports CNA.
Video of the incident went viral on Chinese social media network, Weibo. Several angles of the incident were shot by people in the lobby, after the car smashed through a revolving door, across the lobby, and then back to the doors, in an apparent effort to flee the scene.
In the video, people can be heard exclaiming “he’s going nuts!” according to CNA. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” another person in the lobby can be heard shouting. “Are you crazy? Are you?”

After the stopped on the far end of the lobby, some of the people in the lobby attempted to remove the driver from the car. With the doors apparently locked and the roof up, they were unable to get in, and the driver put the car in reverse, and attempted to get back out of the lobby.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but people can be seen attempting to run away from the car as it drives around the large hotel lobby. Police said that the driver, a 28-year-old identified only as Chen, had been detained pending a further investigation.

The driver had been involved in a dispute with hotel staff just before the incident. The argument revolved around his missing laptop, which staff later said was found outside the hotel after it had been stolen.
While it’s unclear what consequences the driver faces for his actions, it seems likely that they will be severe since he, at the very least, damaged a lot of property, and at worst, endangered the lives of many people in the hotel lobby.
