It shouldn’t need to be said, but just because you own a fast car, that doesn’t mean that you’re exempt from the law. Case in point is this C8 Chevrolet Corvette driver who led police on a high-speed chase before eventually engaging them in a standoff.
The incident started at around 9 PM last week, where a suspected drunk driver was speeding down a California highway. Police attempted to pull him over, but he refused, leading to a full-on chase. At some points he allegedly reached speeds upwards of 100 mph (161 km/h), and after a few minutes, the pursuit moved off the highway and onto side streets. At that point, police threw down a spike strip that successfully popped the Corvette‘s tires, but the driver kept on going.

After a few more minutes, he finally stopped after crashing into an embankment at the side of the road, but that wasn’t the end of the story. Fox 5 San Diego reports that nearly a dozen police cars swarmed the Corvette as officers tried to coerce the man to come out, but he refused, staying in his car and revving the engine. Around 10 minutes later, the man exited the car through the window, turned his back to police, and kneeled on the ground with his hands on his head. It was at that point that nearly a half dozen officers restrained the man, put him in handcuffs, and sat him in the back of the patrol car.
Thankfully there were no injuries and the involved roads reopened at around 10:45 PM that same night.
