The 2022 Hyundai Elantra N Is Impressive, But Is It Better Than The New Subaru WRX?

There is a lot of hype surrounding the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N and for good reason. In fact, it appears to be one of the best performance cars on sale at its price point and Doug DeMuro recently put it through its paces.

Powering this latest addition to the N family is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder pumping out 276 hp and 289 lb-ft (392 Nm) of torque. The N Grin Shift function briefly increases output to 286 hp for short bursts of additional performance.

Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels and buyers have the option of a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed dual-clutch. The car can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in the mid-5-second range. On paper, it all sounds very good and based on most reviews we’ve seen, it is indeed very good. However, DeMuro isn’t won over by the compact sedan.

The YouTuber’s review focuses on both the exterior and interior design of the Elantra N before he heads out onto the street to test the car out. While impressed by the performance on offer, he suggests that the new WRX is slightly better to drive. He says that its use of an advanced all-wheel drive system greatly benefits it and adds that it has better steering feel. By comparison, he says he encountered some understeer with the Elantra N and loads of wheel hop in wet conditions.

Although the YouTuber indicates the Elantra N’s performance doesn’t quite match the WRX, he says that the Korean car is certainly the better looking of the two and has the nicer interior.
